WestJet Airlines today, 3rd October 2014,  announced its first ever flight to Scotland and the UK, linking Halifax, Nova Scotia and Glasgow daily from 30th May until 24th October 2015. Prices start from less than £350per person return including taxes.

WestJet is one of Canada’s most popular airlines, growing from humble beginnings back in 1996 with just five destinations to its current position serving over 90 destinations and carrying over 18 million passengers a year.

The airline says it prides itself on its low fares and award winning culture of customer care.

This new service links the two Scotlands,  the first and the ‘New Scotland [Nova Scotia], in a flight time of around five hours.

With a daily service, this could be a novel and achievable long weekend destination. And the short flight and convenient flight times make it possible to have breakfast in Glasgow and be in Halifax in plenty of time for lunch. Flights will leave Glasgow [WS31] at 09.25, arriving in Halifax at 11.45; and leave Halifax [WS30] at 22.45, arriving on Glasgow at 08.00 the next day.

In recognition of the long standing cultural ties between Halifax and Scotland, WestJet has confirmed the flight number from Halifax will be WS 30 in honour of St Andrew’s Day.

The flights will be operated by WestJet’s modern Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft offering 136 all leather seats complete with seat back TV’s.

With WestJet also running expansive transCanada network, many popular destinations are served directly from Halifax International Airport.

Connecting flights from Halifax enable the exploration of the sights of Montreal, Toronto or Ottawa; or heading westwards, of the likes of Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver or Calgary.
